A 19-year-old woman is set to take off from Goose Bay this morning as part of her attempt to become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world.
Zara Rutherford, who holds Belgian and British citizenship, took off from Belgium in her ultralight Shark aircraft on August 18th with stops in the UK, Iceland and Greenland.
Lake Melville MHA Perry Trimper has been helping with logistics on the ground in Goose Bay where she landed yesterday evening where the young adventurer was welcomed with a special reception.
Trimper says Rutherford ran into some delays in Greenland due to the unusual weather experienced in the Danish territory in recent days.
He says the rain in Greenland caused icing concerns for Rutherford, forcing her to delay her scheduled departure.
Rutherford is scheduled to take off from Goose Bay bound for Montreal around mid-morning, but not before she appears on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly.
