A popular St. John’s business has officially shut down after a seven-month effort to stay afloat. Axtion, an indoor amusement park on Hebron Way, went into receivership on Monday afternoon.
Owner Ross Squires confirmed the news on Tuesday evening saying that with little notice, accounting firm Grant Thornton stepped in and secured the facility as a receiver for a secured creditor. Signs were posted in their front doors disallowing entry to the premises or removal of any assets.
The business had a swansong seven months after Squires initially reported that the business would likely have to close down in January. At the time, he indicated that the impact of the pandemic and public health requirements had proved too much for the business to handle.
The news drew significant public support, and the company kept its doors open until this week.
Squires offered his appreciation for the support, and says his family did everything it could to keep Axtion open, “but things just didn’t work out.”
He notes that any customers with deposit issues or other matters must contact Grant Thornton to proceed.
