Efforts are underway to find a live donor for a 38-year-old St. John’s mother who needs a kidney transplant.
Crystal St. John was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a child, and while her disease was being managed, all that changed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer just days after her wedding in 2013.
Crystal’s cousin Trina Andrews says the chemotherapy proved too much for Crystal’s weakened kidneys, and while she beat the cancer, she is in immediate need of a kidney transplant.
Andrews says Crystal’s doctors say a live donor who is type O+ would be best.
“We’re really hoping for a miracle here,” says Andrews.
In the meantime, Crystal has been moved by the support she’s received so far.
They learned there is a group of people who are registered as live donors who have indicated they are willing to get checked. Andrews says Crystal cried to know perfect strangers were willing to help out.
Andrews has shared information on her Facebook page for anyone willing to get tested as a live kidney donor.
