Hundreds made their way through the Johnson Geo Centre over the weekend to celebrate their love for LEGO.
The “Blocks on the Rock” event, hosted by NewfoundLUG, is a showcase of the group’s creations from 20 different builders—the first event since the start of the pandemic.
They include a 13.5-foot model of the Oceanex Connaigre cargo ship, a to-scale medieval castle, and a re-creation of Cabot Tower, each taking around two years to complete.
Matthew Zwicker, the group’s official ambassador to the LEGO Company and the creator of the castle says that the group holds a special distinction.
In 2019, the group was recognized by the LEGO Company for their dedication to the hobby, making them an official LEGO user group, of which there are only a little over 300 across the world.
Group member Stephen Churchill says their community has seen significant growth during the pandemic.
He says they grew more online than they ever did through in-person meetings.
