Drivers taking to the highways this weekend may encounter ongoing construction in some parts of the province.
That’s leading to some clarity from RCMP on the ongoing debate about how to zipper merge.
Constable John Collins of the RCMP’s Highway Traffic Services East jokes that the zipper merge is an ongoing issue in Newfoundland and Labrador.
He says people are “too kind” and they all stay in one lane, instead of practicing the zipper merge as it should be done.
Collins says the zipper merge occurs at the point where two lanes merge into one.
He says at that point it’s one for one – one car goes from one lane and the other car from the other lane goes. That, he says keeps traffic moving.
