Students are set to return to school tomorrow, and with them comes increased pedestrian traffic.
The Department of Education is reminding motorists about obeying speed limits in school zones and yielding at crosswalks.
Drivers are prohibited from passing a school bus while stopped and must obey the visual signals of the bus like the activated stop arm and flashing lights.
Drivers must also leave one metre of open space between their vehicles and bicycles or pedestrians where speed limits are 60 km/h or less.
Fines for passing a school bus can be up to $1,200, while speeding in a school zone can lead to vehicle impoundment and fines up to $1,800.
