A brand new professional theatre and live entertainment company – one of only two in the entire country – has officially been launched in the capital city.
Terra Bruce is the latest venture of local musician and business owner, Bob Hallett, – backed by Walter Schroeder.
Hallett says as someone who has worked in the live music and entertainment business for the last three decades, the greatest struggle locally has been infrastructure.
He says everyone talks about the huge amount of talent in Newfoundland and Labrador, but that’s useless if they have “no way to get their music to a higher platform.” Hallett says the most successful avenue for entertainment is live musical theatre and “we want to go where the money is.”
The venue is located at 27 Mayor Avenue, in the former Judy Knee Dance Studio. Hallett says they’re hoping Mayor Avenue will become the place to be for young talent.
He jokes that they’d like to think that the front steps of their building will be like Abby Road in London. He says everyone there has worked on the national, and in some cases, international stage and they’re hoping to also do community outreach.
