A ruling on the Innu Nation’s bid to delay implementation of the rate mitigation plan will come down next week.
Supreme Court Justice Sandy MacDonald finished hearing arguments this morning from lawyers for the Innu, as well as the provincial and federal governments.
At issue is whether those governments had a duty to consult with the Innu before they sign off on rate mitigation at the end of this month.
The Innu are seeking an injunction that could delay the signing and expose ratepayers to doubled electricity rates in November when power first comes online from Muskrat Falls.
The Innu say benefits promised 10 years ago in exchange for building the dam on their land would be eroded by the deal.
Justice MacDonald said he’ll give his decision next week, but did not specify the day.
