A petition to bring cell phone service to the Bay d’Espoir highway has garnered over 11,000 signatures.
After multiple collisions on the highway over the summer, residents of the area are concerned the lack of cell service means people are unable to contact emergency services in a timely manner.
Operations manager for Miawpukek First Nation Radio, Trevor Stride, started the petition.
Stride says he has heard from area MHA Elvis Loveless, who expressed his support for the petition, but has yet to see any further movement from government.
He says he’d like to see it in the Premier’s office or anywhere, for that matter, as long as it is addressed.
He says he will continue to push for cell service until they have it.
The petition can be found here.
