It’s likely that more cases will emerge as the investigation continues into a COVID cluster at a personal care home in Baie Verte.
That’s according to Dr. Monica Dutt, the Acting Medical Officer of Health with Central Health.
Ten of eleven new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the central Newfoundland region are in a personal care home in Baie Verte.
Eight of those cases involve people over the age of 70.
That’s of serious concern to public health officials who are investigating the cause of the outbreak and how the virus got into the facility.
Dr. Dutt says she expects to see more cases linked to the cluster as contact tracing continues.
In response to the cluster, testing is now available for those experiencing symptoms in the Baie Verte area today. The testing clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tommy Ricketts Arena in the community. Appointments will not be needed.
As well, a number of COVID-19 vaccination clinics have opened in the area. Information can be found on Central Health’s website.
Due to cases of COVID-19 identified in the region, COVID-19 testing will now be available to all symptomatic individuals in the Baie Verte area on Tuesday, September 21 from 9:00am – 7:00pm. Clinics will be held at the Tommy Ricketts Arena in Baie Verte.https://t.co/p3p1b3gRYv pic.twitter.com/RfVEeet65e
