Soft-tissue injuries account for 68 per cent of Workplace NL lost-time injuries claims in this province over the last five years.
That amounts to $96-million in annual claim costs. Workplace NL has launched its Move Well – Work Well campaign during this, Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Week.
MSIs include any injury that affects the bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves or tendons. They can be suffered to a sudden injury, or through repetitive use or strain.
Director of Prevention Services with Workplace NL Charles Coady says MSI’s are the number one injury suffered in the workplace, and there are a number of professions where those injuries are more prevalent.
He says the number one occupation to suffer an MSI is Personal Care Attendant, number two is Licenced Practical Nurse, number three is Light Duty Cleaner and Registered Nurse is number four.
