Education officials called an impromptu media briefing this afternoon to scold the PC Opposition for its messaging.
Education critic Barry Petten said today the government is failing to keep parents in the loop about the COVID-19 situation in schools, saying they deserve as much information as possible to make the right decisions for their kids.
Education Minister Tom Osborne says that criticism is misleading and only creating more fear and anxiety among the public.
He says that the information provided to parents and the school community identifies if there is an issue in the school and clearly outlines if contact tracing is necessary. He says what they don’t do is give enough info to identify the individual and open them up to shaming, which happened last year.
Officials also identified the schools that have had cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the school year.
They include: New World Island Academy, MSB Academy, Lakewood Academy, MacDonald Drive Elementary and Laval High School.
