Around 120 motorcycle enthusiasts hit the road today for the 15th annual Avalon Motorcycle Ride For Dad.
The police-escorted parade through St. John’s and Portugal Cove-St. Philips raised over $55,000 for the fight against prostate cancer—the most commonly diagnosed men’s cancer in Canada.

Co-Chair Kristine Hamlyn says the ride is also to raise awareness that early detection saves lives.
She says 1 in 8 Canadian men will develop prostate cancer in their life. She says they’ve heard from many people over the years about how it was the ride that got them to get tested and found early signs of cancer.
Brian O’Connell, prostate cancer survivor will be the Honorary Ride Captain.
