Just as the price of lumber has finally started to come down, shortages and high prices for other common home-building materials are being reported across the province.
Shingles, siding, doors, electrical items and HVAC systems are all experiencing shortages, causing the price tag to skyrocket.
Alexis Foster, the CEO of the Canadian Home Builders Association, says many people are taking on different projects, and with issues surrounding steel in the states and possible supply line slowdowns due to COVID-19, materials are running out quickly. However, that isn’t discouraging people from starting projects.
People are still doing renovations and new home builds, however, due to the shortages, projects are being delayed, which is causing frustration.
Foster says the association is hoping to see the market correct itself soon.
