SPCA St. John’s is launching a fundraising campaign to build a new building.
Upwards of 50 people gathered at the Clovelly Clubhouse for the launch of the SPCA’s newest fundraiser.
The Way Home campaign hopes to raise $5 million for a new SPCA building, as the organization is currently operating out of an undersized bungalow-style home that was never meant to house the animals.
The campaign has already raised a significant amount, with $100,000 being donated by Campaign Chair Jim Hynes and his brother Barry Hynes, as well as an anonymous donation of $500,000.
The St. John’s SPCA, which takes in about 1,200 animals a year from as far away as Labrador, is the oldest animal shelter in the province.
With a modern facility, the organization says they can expand their capacity and provide better care and more medical procedures for at- risk animals.
