The Mayor of Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay says she’s more than happy to pick up where the late Bride Martin of St. Vincent’s left off.
Martin, of St. Vincent’s, was a school teacher with a passionate interest in the history and heritage of St. Mary’s Bay.
She wrote a booklet about the history of St. Vincent’s St Stephens and Peter’s River and helped to establish a Fishermen’s Museum in the area.
Martin passed away on October 22nd at the age of 92.
Riverhead Mayor Sheila Lee was a good friend of Martin’s and delivered the eulogy at Martin’s funeral. She says Martin collected countless stories and carried a great deal of valuable information on the people of the area and a way of life that is slowly becoming history.
Lee says she’s willing to pick up where Martin left off.
“This will be a wonderful project for me” says Lee. She says they hope they will be able to preserve, keep and share with the world the wonderful contribution Martin made to her community and the province as a whole.
