The Way Home campaign looks to raise $5-million for SPCA St. John’s to build a new facility to replace their current one.
Rebecca Oxford was a volunteer with the SPCA when she met Sammy, her future companion.
She was going through a rough mental health patch at the time, and one of her self-care techniques was volunteering with the SPCA.
She says Sammy was not as sociable as the other dogs, so she gave him extra attention.
She says while working with Sammy, she realized a lot of the issues he was struggling with, she was as well.
She says they helped each other get better, something that never would have happened without the help of the SPCA.
Kayla Cooper, a dog groomer, met Cecil after the SPCA rescued him from a hoarding situation.
Cecil was found with chicken wire wrapped around his neck in a harrowing home situation.
Cooper says she donated his grooming costs and fell in love with the dog.
She says Cecil has been a great comfort and calls him her soulmate.
