The city of St. John’s has released more information and a short statement after Deacon Sports and Entertainment—owners of the Growlers—which is embroiled in a controversy with St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, publicly released its notice of arbitration on the weekend.
In a statement sent out to media this morning, the Mayor is quoted as saying that it is unfortunate that the details of the notice, which he indicates tell one side of the story and are not proven, have been made public.
The statement indicates that it is “very unhelpful in bringing resolution to a very complex matter.”
The city is not responding publicly to the notice as it prepares to participate in the arbitration.
In the meantime, the city has posted another question and answer document to its website in response to the ongoing controversy involving the Growlers’ suspension from the Mary Brown’s Centre while an investigation into allegations of disrespectful workplace conduct is carried out.
Growlers President Glenn Stanford would not comment on the city’s release. He says they have a legal team on the situation and will not be commenting.
