Newfoundland and Labrador’s second city says it’s well prepared to host professional hockey if the Growlers do so choose it as the host for their second homestand of the ECHL season.
The team was temporarily suspended from the Mary Brown’s Centre by the City of St. John’s just few days before their first home games. The Growlers completed their first two series on home ice in Conception Bay South.
Corner Brook Mayor Jim Parsons says the Civic Centre, which was built for the 1999 Canada Winter Games, would in these COVID times seat about 2,500.
Dean MacDonald, president and CEO of Deacon Sports and Entertainment, revealed on the VOCM Morning Show yesterday that Corner Brook was one of three possible home ports for the next series of games.
Mayor Parsons says they could host the team for more than just the next few games if called upon.
The Growlers will fill in the blanks in a couple of days.
Meanwhile, the City of St. John’s says it hopes to come to a solution as soon as possible but it cannot comment further because the matter is before the courts.
