NL Hydro says some residents in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area may be without power overnight as they work to restore service to the Upper Lake Melville area.
The power outage Thursday morning, affecting a large region, was caused by a problem on the transmission line from Churchill Falls, but poor weather and road conditions caused delays for Hydro crews dispatched to locate the problem.
By mid-morning some power had been restored with the help of a gas turbine. In the meantime, crews patrolling the lines had to resort to snowmobiles because weather made it difficult to patrol the lines by helicopter. That effort had to be abandoned for the night, and will resume in the morning.
Hydro says as a result, some customers in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Sheshatshiu and North West River will remain without power overnight.
UPDATE: For customers in Happy Valley Goose Bay, Sheshatshiu and North West River, while we continue to bring customers online, some will remain without power overnight. We have worked to ensure essential services are available. https://t.co/jG8uOwkI85
