A one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with double-digit temperatures and sunshine translated into a huge turnout for the Santa Claus parade in downtown St. John’s on Sunday.
Organizers estimate roughly 55,000 people attended the event in the unseasonably warm weather.
About 20,000 pounds of food, with a cash value of $55,500, was collected in aid of the Community Food Sharing Association, in addition to thousands more in cash donations.
Newfoundland Power is matching the funds collected at the parade up to $10,000.
Dozens of festively decorated floats made their way along Duckworth Street and Water Street to the delight of children at the ready with letters to Santa.
And in the end Santa and his right-hand reindeer, Rudolph, didn’t disappoint, waving and wishing all a Merry Christmas along the way.
And the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Santa’s sleigh making it’s way down Water Street, it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas… accept for the warm, sunny weather!? @VOCMBen @VOCMNEWS @590VOCM pic.twitter.com/kPW8iMzhqm
