A Scotland native is walking across the entirety of Canada with his dog, all the while wearing a kilt.
Michael Yellowlees is on the journey of a lifetime. Back in March he and his dog Luna, set out from Tofino British Columbia with the goal of walking across the entire country to raise money and awareness for the charity Trees for Life, which is tackling the regreening of Scotland’s Caledonia pine trees.
He says he’s doing his trek in Canada because of the historic nature of the landscape.
He says thousands and thousands of Scots were sent to Canada over the last 300 years. As the trees were being deforested, the Scots were also being removed from the land, sent on ships to Canada.
Yellowlees says he also chose Canada for the wildlife, much of which Scotland has lost.
He calls it a “really lovely double-edged sword” to walk across the country and tell Canadian’s to look after the beauty they have.
He’s set to finish his journey at Cape Spear over the weekend.
