The Newfoundland Pony Society is reporting progress in achieving its $250,000 fundraising goal to help establish a Heritage Park near Hopeall, Trinity Bay.
Some $75,000 dollars has been raised in the first phase of the fundraiser.
The park will allow the public to visit and learn more about the endangered heritage animals that helped people survive in a challenging environment for centuries.
The park is located on 25 acres of land acquired from the Provincial Government on an agricultural lease. It will provide free grazing pasture and space for a small breeding program.
Future plans also include a visitor centre and an outreach program for schools.
The Newfoundland Pony Society is also hoping that the ponies can be used to help display traditional activities like pulling logs.
