Eastern Health confirms that some surgeries and procedures scheduled at St. Clare’s were cancelled or postponed on Monday due to a shortage of beds and “an unanticipated shortage of available staff.”
Four elective surgeries were cancelled or postponed due to the unavailability of beds while another four were postponed or rescheduled due to a shortage of staff.
Part of the reason was a higher than usual number of patients who presented to the Emergency Department on that day. The health authority says it makes adjustments daily to address hospital capacity, and no elective surgeries were cancelled on the following day.
