The level of female participation in municipal elections this year increased over 2017, according to final data released by the Office of Women and Gender Equality.
The number of women elected to municipal government was up by 10 per cent over 2017, with an overall increase of 2.8 per cent in the number of people who put their names forward for election.
The majority of the 499 people elected were between the ages of 46 and 65 and more than 220 people elected were between the ages of 18 and 45.
