A Newfoundlander is climbing the administrative ladder in the NHL. Derek Clancy has been named assistant general manager of the Vancouver Canucks.
Clancy, now 52, has worked most of his career in the front office of the Pittsburgh Penguins. GM Jim Rutherford says they’re building a front office with people with a variety of backgrounds. He played eight professional seasons before turning to coaching and scouting. He comes from the Calgary Flames where he was a scout.
Vancouver recently cleaned house after hitting the skids but they have since won five straight.
Clancy, a product of the Celtics, has three Stanley Cups to his credit.
Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations and Interim General Manager Jim Rutherford announced today that Derek Clancey has been named Assistant General Manager.
