The Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador has received a major donation from a local band with a close personal connection to Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The incidence of ASD in Newfoundland and Labrador is 1 in every 57 people between the ages of 5 and 17, much higher than the Canadian average.
The band Bare Mountain, led by Steve Denty, has been raising money for the Autism Society for the last twelve years.
The band made the latest in a series of donations this week – funds raised through an evening that included games of chance, an auction, food and music.
To date the band has raised just over $220,000 for the Society.
