Residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay are being warned of recent sightings of a wolf in the area.
Conservation officers have increased patrols in the area and are monitoring the situation.
The public is being asked to avoid attracting the wolf to residential properties by properly storing garbage and keeping their pets under close supervision when they are outside.
The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture says wild animals can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable when approached by humans and they’re asking people who may encounter a wolf in town to give the animal plenty of room and allow them an escape route. If the animal approaches, wave your arms and be loud and aggressive. Do not run away from a wolf, but back away slowly.
Any wolf sightings in the area should be reported to the North West River Forest Management Office by calling 709-897-8479 or after hours at 709-897-7116.
