Health Minister John Haggie says the cyber attack that crippled the province’s healthcare system in the fall has proven that no one is immune to being a victim of such incidents.
Specific details about what lead to the cyber attack and who perpetrated it are still unknown.
Government officials have cited the ongoing investigation into the incident, and not potentially wanting to tip off those responsible, as reasons for remaining tight-lipped about the situation.
Haggie describes the attack as an “out of left field” challenge, noting that the protection of people’s privacy is always top of mind.
He says they need see what they can learn from the situation to make the system better.
As well, he says the fact that the system was able to get back online as fast as it did is a testament to the people working on the problem for government.
