Eastern Health confirmed five patients on a unit at the Leonard A Miller Centre have tested positive for COVID-19.

The first case tested positive on December 29, subsequent testing confirmed more positive cases on the unit. Eastern Health is awaiting the test results of staff members, but the testing of patients is complete. A “small number” of staff members have tested positive, but it is not immediately known whether those cases are connected to patients on the unit.

All positive patients on the unit were close contacts of one another and the Health Authority has taken a number of measures to minimize the spread.

In the meantime, all outpatient appointments at the Miller Centre have been cancelled. Affected patients will be contacted regarding their next appointment.
