Premier Andrew Furey says the province has been working closely with Indigenous leadership to ensure that communities have the supplies and resources needed to deal with the current surge in COVID cases in Labrador.
Labrador managed to avoid the spike in case numbers up until recently when case counts suddenly jumped into the triple digits.
Furey was in Labrador this week helping to administer booster shots at vaccination clinics in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Sheshatshiu.
He was questioned on concerns raised in a letter sent to the Premier’s office by Xavier Panashue of Sheshatshiu who says Labradorians have been on the backburner since the pandemic began. Penashue outlined problems getting supplies and resources, especially in remote coastal communities.
Furey says government has been working with local governments to ensure they have what is needed.
He assures that government is working with the Nunatsiavut Government and others in ensuring supply chain issues are addressed and needs are met.
