K-12 classes are remaining online for the next week.
Both the English and French school districts will be staying the course and remain virtual, as the province has moved to Alert Level 4 since the initial move to online learning.
The Departments of Education and Health are working with the NLESD to distribute rapid tests to all schools in both districts over the coming days.
Government is planning for rapid testing to play a role in the resumption of classes and school operations going forward. Details are still being finalized.
The next update will come no later than Thursday, January 13.
COVID Numbers Should Come “Way Down” Before In Class Learning Resumes: NLTA

Meanwhile, students went back to virtual learning this week, the third time since the pandemic began.
Teachers Union President Trent Langdon says moving to a virtual format was the right thing to do, despite the challenges, and they want to make sure things are as safe as possible before most students return to the classroom.
“We’ve got to get back as soon as possible, but when the time is ready,” says Langdon. He’d like to see current numbers come “way down” from where they are now before that happens.
In the meantime, not all students are learning virtually. Some are being accommodated in the schools to meet specific needs.
Langdon says a smaller number of students who have higher needs and don’t benefit from online learning are still being instructed in schools with the help of teachers, IRTs, administrators and guidance counsellors.
