The Opposition is concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre.
The facility put stricter restrictions in place yesterday in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus, even though the first case was detected on New Year’s Eve. There are now 25 residents and 22 staff with the virus connected to the outbreak.
The PC MHA for the region, Tony Wakeham, is concerned about the length of time between the first detection and the announcement of restrictions. Wakeham says an explanation is needed as to why it took so long.
He is also questioning whether or not the age of the building, which was built in the 70s and features close quarters, played a role in the spread.
