Much of the island is under a storm warning this weekend with high winds and heavy accumulations of snow.
The snowbelt in this case stretches from Gander to Corner Brook with 15 to 35 cm on the way. Central Newfoundland and most of the west coast will see at least 20 cm and winds will pick up as well, especially on Saturday.
Tiffany Cheeks, a meteorologist with the Gander Weather office, says it will be a blizzard in some areas and says travelling will be difficult in a large chunk of the island.
Blizzard warnings are out for the Northern Peninsula, Green Bay-White Bay, Bay of Exploits and the Grand Falls-Windsor area.
Clarenville and Marystown will get close to 10 cm of snow and ice pellets tonight with about 5 cm expected on the Avalon.
