The Newfoundland Rogues were off to an impressive 6-0 start to their inaugural season before the latest surge of COVID cases brought that momentum to a screeching halt.
Team president Tony Kenny announced on Thursday that following a meeting with league officials, Rogues games are being postponed until further notice.
He says as of right now, the next four games, scheduled for January 19 and 20, along with January 22 and 23 have been postponed.
He says the move is incredibly disappointing, but the health and safety of the team, as well as its fans, has to come first. As for the players, Kenny confirmed that a majority of the team has left the province. The decision was made just before Christmas, with management feeling it best for players to be able to spend time with their families for the time being.
Despite the obstacles, Kenny is optimistic about the future of the organization. He says they are as committed as ever to bringing the Rogues back to the court.
Soon enough, Kenny says, “COVID will be behind us and the basket will be in front of us.”
