By this time of year most people are usually taking down their Christmas decorations and taking in their Christmas lights, but a growing number of municipalities are encouraging residents to keep the lights burning to spread a little added cheer at a difficult time.
St. John’s, Mount Pearl, CBS and Happy Valley-Goose Bay are among the municipalities that are keeping outdoor light displays burning, and encouraging people to do the same.
Mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Mayor George Andrews says it’s just a way to help lift spirits amid record case counts.
The province is under a modified version of Alert Level 4, with most indoor recreational activities suspended, students attending class virtually and many people working from home due to a surge in Omicron cases.
In addition, Parks Canada has announced that the Signal Hill Star will continue to shine over St. John’s until the end of the month.
The #SignalHillStar will continue shining over #yyt until January 31, 2022! 🌟 Cause we could all use a little extra hope and joy right now. #StaySafe and be kind everyone! pic.twitter.com/bU91T19Tfi
