There were no arrests, but dozens of people were unable to get their boosters on the weekend due to a disruption resulting from a protest at the vaccine clinic at Waterford Valley High Saturday afternoon.
The health authority says the booster clinic had to close about a half hour earlier than originally scheduled as a result of the protest.
Eastern Health says the protest was disruptive to those who were entering and exiting the building, and to staff on site due to what the health authority calls “inappropriate behaviours” including unmasked protestors in close range who were shouting at people attending the clinic. Eastern Health says because safety protocols were disrupted, staff locked the clinic down, with a number of patients and health care workers kept inside while the protest was ongoing.
Police were called in to help escort people to their vehicles as needed. As a result of the closure of the clinic, Eastern Health says approximately 60 people were unable to get their booster shot. Anyone who was unable to get their booster at Saturday’s clinic, is encouraged to return at a later date.
