A local comedian is remembering the late Bob Saget as a kind and generous soul.
The 65-year-old stand up comedian was found dead in an Orlando hotel room on Sunday. The cause of death is under investigation.
Saget is best known for his role as widowed father, Danny Tanner in the popular 80s sit-com Full House.
He also had a successful run as the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos in the early 1990s.
Corner Brook comedian Trent McLellan got to know Saget when he opened for the star in Calgary.
McLellan says he was surprised when Saget approached him before the show offering to get something to eat afterwards.
Saget came to his dressing room and expressed how excited he was to have McLellan on the show, “right away he was trying to make a connection” says McLellan.
McLellan says while he was star-struck, Saget was an ordinary person who hated the concept of celebrity and was a genuinely kind person.
He says despite his fame, and the dark and edgy nature of his stand up routine, the kindness Saget extended to him is being reflected in the outpouring of love and condolences being expressed after his passing.
“It was just who he was, all the time, you know?”
When I think of Bob Saget I think of kindness. He was always always always great to me and others. He made me laugh but it was his genuine nature to put others first that stays with me. Rest easy my friend. You are deeply missed. #RIPBobSaget pic.twitter.com/oRxDQIx778
