Snowmobile enthusiasts on the east coast of the island may have to do a bit of traveling to get a run on their machines.
Despite the date on the calendar, there is a distinct lack of snow on the Avalon Peninsula.
Director of the NL Snowmobile Federation, Peter Troke of Clarenville, says a few cold days mean that most of the ponds are finally caught over, leaving snowmobilers on the Eastern Portion of the island anxious for a good dumping of snow.
Troke says there is plenty of snow on the west coast, but the ponds may not be safe.
The groomers are out, says Troke, but rain has caused a bit of runoff, causing challenging conditions in around brooks and streams.
On the Northern Peninsula, there’s plenty of snow, but very little frost making pond conditions unsafe.
