A 25-year-old man accused of escaping lawful custody and stealing a vehicle in the east end is back in the hands of police, after a series of events Friday night.
An unattended vehicle was stolen from a gas station on Torbay Road in St. John’s around 8:00 Friday night.
The RNC located the stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Newfoundland Drive about 2 1/2 hours later and called for backup.

As the officer approached, he noticed that it was Adam Whalen, who was on their wanted list.
Once Whalen realized what was happening, he tried to shift the vehicle in gear and leave the area.
He was taken into custody after police removed him from the automobile.
He faces numerous charges including resisting arrest, escaping lawful custody and theft of a motor vehicle.
