The town of Placentia has lost one of its most dedicated, vocal, and colourful, political leaders.
Former Mayor Bill Hogan has passed away at the age of 84.
Hogan was larger-than-life, with a plain-speaking, brash, no-nonsense style that sometimes landed him in political trouble.
He was first elected to political office as the Mayor of Dunville in 1969, a position he held until 1989.
He was part of the team that saw the construction of the Dunville Ball Field, and during that time, the town hall was extended to include a new fire hall.
He was elected to the House of Assembly in 1989, representing the District of Placentia under Clyde Wells until 1993.
He served as mayor of the amalgamated town of Placentia from 1997 to 2001 and again from 2005 to 2014.
The town of Placentia Thursday released a long list of the improvements made in the town under his leadership.
Hogan achieved a great deal for the town and the region during his time in elected office.
Mayor Keith Pearson says flags at the town hall have been lowered to half-mast and town offices will close on the day of his funeral.
