As COVID continues to emerge in long-term care across the province, one company is crediting proactive measures for so far dodging that bullet.
Fort Amherst Health Care operates Mountain View Retirement Centre in Corner Brook, Westbury Estates in Southlands, and Bishops Gardens in the centre of St. John’s.
The latter was part of an exposure notification this past weekend, but so far there have been no positive tests among residents.
Company president Mike Powell says restrictions were put in place in December before they had to. But he says they’re following all current protocols, and so far so good.
He says residents will be quarantining for the next two weeks until they get the final all clear, adding the results of all recent swabs up to Tuesday have come back negative.
Powell says the focus is equally on residents’ mental health and ensuring they stay connected with family and friends either by phone or virtually.
