It appears that three towns in the province are going to lose banking services later this year.
Andrew Shea, the mayor of Fogo, says the Scotiabank, which has been on the island for 108 years, told employees this week that the bank will close come August.
Shea says that’s going to make it difficult for businesses and residents as the nearest bank is an 8-hour trip which includes a ferry crossing.
He has been in touch with head office but all he could find on it was a news release which mentioned Newfoundland and Labrador in passing only.
The release said there will be consolidations in Arnold’s Cove, Glovertown and Fogo.
The town has contact information on its website for people to call the bank and voice their concerns.
