The Opposition is calling for government intervention to help support Thrive’s “Blue Door” program.
The program, which helps those sexually exploited, trafficked, or engaged in sex work leaving the sex industry, received a five-year commitment from the federal government for funding.
That money runs out in February.
Shadow Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality, Helen Conway-Ottenheimer, says Thrive’s Executive Director reached out to her for assistance in getting government’s attention.
In December, Minister Pam Parsons expressed her commitment to the program, however, Thrive are yet to see any movement on potential funding from the provincial government.
Conway-Ottenheimer says the program is at a critical stage.
She says if the program does not see government come forward with funding, then the young people affected will be left in the dark.
She’s calling on government to commit funding to the program, which previously received $450,000 annually.
