Today marks the two year anniversary of Snowmageddon.
The record-breaking snowstorm brought the Metro region to a halt for eight days as over 90 cm of snow fell, on top of nearly 100 cm already on the ground.
The City of St. John’s was thrust into a state of emergency, with the storm costing the city $7 million dollars for cleanup.
However, it was not only snow the event brought as many remember the kindness of their neighbours as the community banded together to get through the catastrophic storm.
Between a VOCM News team stranded at the station for three days, and a Facebook group with over 117,000 members, the lines of communication opened for all to share their experiences with the storm.
Founder of the NL Snowmageddon 2020 Information Center Facebook group and author of a book on the event, Nick Cranford, believes the legacy of the storm will live on.
He expects people will remember Snowmageddon for as long as they live.
