The English school board says a school principal is in the process of clarifying contents of an email sent to parents regarding rapid test kits.
Beachy Cove Elementary principal Aubrey Dawe sent the email yesterday, acknowledging some families may not want to do the tests, and asking them to advise the school, in order to prevent unnecessary follow-up.
The province has said negative tests are required 72 hours before the return to school, and on the morning of, but has also admitted the plan relies very much on the honour system.
In a statement to VOCM News, the school board says the email has “caused some confusion,” adding that the principal is “preparing a clarification.”
They said that while schools will not be verifying test results, parents are asked to ensure they’re negative before sending a child to school.
In short, they say families are being asked to do their part to help keep everyone safe, and are being provided the means to do so.
The board noted some may be unable to take the test for various reasons.
They say if a student or staff are in that position, they can still go to school by using the daily self-screening questionnaire and following all the other COVID protocols.
