The labour dispute that threatened to shut down St. John’s International Airport is now over.
The Airport Authority and the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees announced on Thursday evening that a settlement had been reached.
The dispute boiled over earlier this week when there weren’t enough firefighters to safely allow larger commercial flights to land.
It surrounded complaints of harassment and a toxic workplace.

Both sides now say an understanding has been reached that will see a return to normal operations, while the contentious issues are addressed.
The union says the deal will give protection to the firefighters and tackles safety concerns that led to the initial dispute.
A joint committee will also be formed between the union and the authority to address other outstanding issues.
The parties have reached an agreement tonight, with the assistance of the Federal Mediator.
St. John’s Airport is now restored to normal operations.
I would like to thank all involved for their commitment to reaching a negotiated resolution.
