The operator of the Voisey’s Bay mine is being coy about a possible COVID-19 outbreak at the site in Labrador.

Sources tell VOCM News that dozens of positive cases have been confirmed there.

But Vale will neither confirm nor deny the reports.

In an emailed response, Vale would not address the question of COVID cases at Voisey’s Bay. Instead, the company would only say they report all cases to Public Health.

They say they’re closely monitoring the situation, adding “We continue to operate safely with many controls in place including onsite testing, the wearing of contact tracing badges, wearing masks, physical distancing, hand washing and enhanced cleaning routines.”
