The upward movement in fuel prices will continue tomorrow according to a consumer advocate.
Dan McTeague of Gas Wizard Dot Com predicts gas to go up by just over a cent which means we’re closing in on the all-time record high of $1.63 set last fall. Diesel will go up by close to two cents while home heating fuel will be about a penny a litre more expensive come morning.
McTeague says maybe it’s time for governments to re-think imposing heavy taxes, such as the carbon tax, on fuels. Price increases this time of year are unusual as we don’t usually see upward movement until spring.
Only Vancouver pays a higher price for gas than Newfoundland and Labrador—$1.70 a litre as of tomorrow.
Toronto will be $1.50 tomorrow and Montreal $1.57 while the “sweet spots” in the country will be the Prairies in the $1.30’s. He says the main reason for the difference is taxation. Take, for example, Vancouver which pays $74 cents a litre in taxation.
