A goaltender who has had a great couple of games for the Vancouver Canucks has Newfoundland blood running through his veins.
Spencer Martin, who wasn’t expected to suit up in the NHL this year, has done an admirable job filling in for number one Thatcher Demko.
Martin stopped 47 shots, and was the main reason the Canucks salvaged a point on Tuesday night, as they hosted Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
Martin’s grandparents are from St. John’s, having left Critch’s Path for Ontario in the 1960’s.
The Oilers came back in the 3rd to tie it, then won in OT.
